KGR golden keyword ratio
Monthly searches per intitle page: 58.1
EKGR difficulty-adjusted ratio
Difficulty factor ×1.07 · KD band: Low
KDROI backlink return
Daily ceiling $666.67 · monthly ceiling $20,278 · payback in about 2 days
- Backlinks use tiered compound pricing: the first 10 cost $100 each; links 11–50 rise 1% per link; 51–200 rise 1.5%; and links above 200 rise 2%.
- Each click produces $0.10 in revenue.
- You capture every search click. This is optimistic, so KDROI should be treated as a revenue ceiling.
How to use the three metrics
One keyword, three lenses: competition gap → difficulty adjustment → investment return.
KGR: competition gap
KGR = intitle results ÷ monthly searches. Pages with the full keyword in their title are the direct supply. A KGR below 0.25 indicates demand is much larger than this focused supply.
EKGR: difficulty adjustment
EKGR = intitle × (1 + KD/100) ÷ monthly searches. It corrects KGR for competitor strength so a small set of powerful pages does not look deceptively easy.
KDROI: investment return
KD becomes an estimated referring-domain count, then tiered backlink cost. KDROI = (annual revenue ÷ investment − 1) × 100%. If the return cannot cover links, skip the keyword early.
Decision thresholds
| Metric | Low competition / worth doing | Medium | High / caution |
|---|---|---|---|
| KGR | < 0.25 | 0.25 – 1.0 | > 1.0 |
| EKGR | < 0.25 and KD < 30 | ≤ 1.0 and KD ≤ 50 | Everything else |
| KDROI | > 500% | 100% – 500% | < 100% |
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the intitle result count?+
Type intitle:"your keyword" in Google, including the English quotation marks. The result total shown near the top is the intitle count. If no number appears, opening page two often reveals it.
When is the KGR method most useful?+
It is strongest during a new site's cold start. Publish long-tail keywords with KGR below 0.25 and roughly 20–250 monthly searches, build initial authority with those smaller wins, then move toward larger terms.
Where does the KD-to-backlink mapping come from?+
It uses Ahrefs' published KD-to-referring-domain benchmarks (KD 10 ≈ 10 domains, 50 ≈ 84, 70 ≈ 202 and 90 ≈ 756), with linear interpolation between points. It is a scale estimate, not an exact quote.
Is $0.10 revenue per click realistic?+
It is a conservative blended assumption for ads, affiliate revenue and conversions. SaaS or high-ticket affiliate offers may earn much more per click, while ad-only content sites may earn less.
